Joe Buico started his fitness life in New York, studied it in San Diego, returned to New York, and now has found his home in California…and he plans to stay! Joe has over 12 years of experience in the fitness world, with the majority of those years focusing on personal training. He now commits much of his time what he calls “Sport Specific Bodywork,” which includes a combination of assisted stretching, trigger point massage, and spinal and core elongation.
His goal in his massage therapy sessions is to improve blood flow throughout the body. By working on elongating the spine and musculature and by manually working on muscle knots and tight muscle fibers, blood flows better to the body, therefore, allowing more free movement and better performance in any given activity. Joe has been doing Sport Specific Bodywork for the past few years to complement the training he has given to his already athletic client base. Although he has experience with clients at all levels of fitness, Joe loves working with athletes and individuals who share his passion for a fit life. He has had the pleasure to work with athletes such as professional baseball player Jason Marquis.
He has personally been plagued by many athletic injuries, and he feels his Sport Specific Bodywork can not only help with recovery from an injury, but also and very importantly, prevent injuries from occurring.
“Whatever you do in your fitness life, I can make you better. You can be someone looking to train for a marathon who just wants to prevent injury or someone who just enjoys going to spin class regularly and has a nagging hamstring tightness that is preventing you from reaching the level of intensity you want to achieve in class.” - Joe
Teaches: SpinningI recently moved from the beautiful state of Montana. After spending the majority of my years in the mountains, lakes, rivers, and trails, I decided to give the big city life a try! I was fortunate enough to have co-owned a Spin studio in Montana and loved the interactions, relationships, blood, sweat and tears that came with the job. It was a very special opportunity, and I made life long friends. Revolution has the same energy and vibe! I have run several marathons, ridden a few centuries, and peaked many mountains, and I find spinning to be a very essential and fun cross-training approach for athletes. What I love most about Spin at Rev is the beautiful diversity of its students. All shapes and sizes can Spin!
If music is important to your workouts, know that I am a music fanatic and that I bring my love for music to class! I take my playlists very seriously, from Rihanna to Nirvana to Rolling Stones, and even the Beatles. I do it all! I am not a huge talker in class, but expect some jokes, yelling, and energizing motivation that will get you sweating!

She loves motivating people with a challenging workout designed to help transform their bodies.
Spinning, hiking, running, Lagree Fitness, circuit training and - most of all - a dedicated yoga practice have helped Lisa find a great mixture of body awareness, mental as well as physical strength. She is a Mad Dogg Certified Spinning instructor, certified for Pilates training and is currently in the process of getting certified as a Yoga instructor.
Lisa uses diverse playlists with a variety of musical genres; she is always looking for new music and welcomes requests. Lisa's classes are energetic, challenging and designed to motivate!
Donna Otten started her career as a portrait photographer, graduating with a degree in Photography and working and mentoring with some of the worlds most accomplished photographers. In 2012 she decided to embrace Pilates by training to become a certified teacher.

Teaches: Gyrotonic®I was a gymnast on a championship high school team in Los Angeles, which lead to my study of classical ballet starting in the Bay Area with Richard Gibson of Pacific Dance Center. I then continued with Gloria Mohr Buslik of New York City Ballet, Patricia Denisova of Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo, Colleen O'callaghan of American Ballet Theater, and Marat Daukayev of the Kirov Ballet. About fifteen years ago, I began studying at Yoga Works flow with Shiva Rhea, Max Strom, Vinnie Marino, et al. As I became more conscious of my body and its patterns/injuries, I began the study of Iyengar Yoga with Chris Stein, Lisa Walford, Marla Apt, and Paul Cabinis. In the interim of all this, I swam, surfed and hiked, seeking to create a sort of cross training situation incorporating aerobics, balance and strength training.
I have been studying Gyrotonic and Gyrokenisis for the last four years with Dawn Swatchick Senior Master Trainer, who originally trained with Julio Horvath (and continues to do so) in NYC.
Teaches: Core BarreJanis Flax has been a dancer from day one and has danced her way across the U.S. and Europe. After an extended stop in Chicago as an actress, she finally made her way back to California, got married, and had two girls.
While raising her daughters, she found time to teach Spinning and Yoga at YAS, Spinning at TRIFIT Studios and Core Barre, Yoga and Zumba at the YWCA of Santa Monica. She has had many mentors over the years, most recently Nancy Norby, who trained and introduced her to Core Barre method, and Shawntee. Satinover.
Janis believes there is no greater gift we can give ourselves then that of strength and flexibility- and staying active is the key to staying young both mentally and physically. She loves the focus, determination, and intensity of Core Barre, the wonderful feeling of accomplishment when class is over, and most of all the results of a leaner, longer streamlined body! She is inspired by how hard her clients work and how determinedly they meet each challenge, give it their all and pulse out “just 10 more reps!” Janis completely swears by Core Barre, crediting it to realigning her body and eliminating a nagging hip pain, which chiropractors could not heal.
Janis is excited to share her passion for Core Barre, help her clients meet their fitness goals, and, thrilled to be a new member of the Revolution Family!
Teaches: SpinningMotivated, high energy, committed, compassionate and drive – together describe perfectly the Santa Monica native, Sean Conley, whose passion for spinning is evidenced in each of his classes. Sean has dedicated the better part of the last decade to making others look and feel good by discovering their inner strength. With his positive attitude and unflappable spirit, Sean is valuable asset to the spinning and physical fitness community at large.
Sean’s lifelong love of music is apparent in his customized playlists with carefully selected beats designed to push you to your peak. As one of his clients puts it, “Sean takes you out of the classroom – not only does he create a vision for an amazing ride, but he lets you tap into your inner-thoughts and the workout becomes more than just a sweat session.”
Tracy Nielsen’s journey began at an early age as a model/actor when she was introduced into the world of fitness as a way to maintain her own health. It wasn’t long before she realized this was her passion! Her goal was to not only improve her own personal experience, but to show others that fitness is fun. She creates an environment where everyone is welcomed, challenged, motivated and rewarded. In each class, Tracy’s gives you the roadmap to tap into that zone, leaving behind the world beyond the studio walls, finding your inner-voice, while listening to great music that you can’t help but sing (or hum) along to. She loves all genres of tunes, whether its hip hop, alternative, 80’s, rap, or reggae, there’s something for everyone. Each class is different, including her music, because monotony is just plain boring. If there’s one thing she promises, it’s that you’ll sweat, and you’ll leave her class feeling better than when you walked in!
A recently converted Cali-girl, from FL, Tracy is Spinning Certified through Mad Dogg Athletics. Some of her other certifications include Personal Training through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), Group Exercise through the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA), KRANKcycle, and Gravity. Cari’s work ethic and longevity on the fitness scene in Los Angeles is a result of being inspired by the hundreds of students and clients she has worked with since teaching her first class in 1981.
For over three decades, Cari’s infectious and inexhaustible energy has enabled her to motivate group classes, private clients and colleagues alike. Her love of music shines through as she creates the seamless road in each of her challenging Spinning classes.
Committed to bring out the best effort in each individual, Cari believes in an intelligent approach to training. By developing programs that are based on specific, current, and accurate information, Cari's clients and students are empowered to set, reach and often exceed their fitness goals. Cari is passionate about improving performance by highlighting the importance of proper postural alignment. She trains clients to become more aware of their own structural and habitual posture issues and insists on impeccable exercise execution. Through her own experience, Cari places as high a value on (self) proprioception. Body awareness and proper structural alignment reduces the likelihood of chronic overuse injuries, muscle imbalances and dysfunctional movement patterns while enhancing performance, health, appearance, confidence, and more efficient breathing.

Teaches: SpinningHi! I am Riley McAlpine-Barthold, super lucky wife, mom, step-mom, and lover of spinning! It is an honor to say I have taught at Revolution for about 15 years and been able to make my living the way I have. In 1991, I received a bachelor’s degree in Studio Art from the University of Vermont. Having grown up in the middle of the woods without neighbors, electricity, or running water, Los Angeles seemed like the perfect place to make a BIG change! I hopped on a plane without a plan and here I am all these years later. I am an artist by trade as well as a "retired" personal trainer. If I really think about it, the two professions are really quite similar. The more willing a person is to let go and be free from the constraints of their mind the more results they will achieve physically, and the same goes for paint on canvas.
What a spectacularly colorful life I have had so far! A handful of big life events:
- Selected to lead 12 teenagers across the United States on a seven-week bicycle trip called the American Challenge. I witnessed young strangers dip their rear wheel in the Atlantic Ocean, hop on bikes with 75 pounds of gear and ride in harmony to their finish by jumping in the Pacific…. astounding.
- Raced for Helens/Trek Volkswagen cycling team. My nickname was "Rookie Riley" as I was selected shortly after I began racing and placed on a team of pros who had raced many years. There was a lot of catching up to do in a short time!
- Started a cycling team called TEAM RILEY and designed several lines of cycling clothing.
- Trained celebrities. I was able to see first hand that it is a glorious life in many ways however not always as easy as we would imagine. A male celebrity I coached loved jumping in packs of riders covered in lycra, helmets, and sunglasses allowing him "sameness". To this day, he does not reveal that he rides a bicycle so he can remain one of the pack. Isn't that an interesting thought?
- RILEY ART. I sold my largest abstract collection to my favorite fitness client. Because of him, I was able to open up a store and sell my art around the world. What a great exchange! He trained hard and morphed from a sedentary man to someone who could finish an 8-mile run.
Writing a bio is so strange because it feels like I am bragging about myself but I suppose all of us should recognize our accomplishments more often. A spin student in my Meditation Spin class just pointed out that as kids we run across the playground saying, "I am so fast!" or raise our hand in class with enthusiasm of knowing an answer. Somewhere along the road however, we are taught that we should not be proud out loud. Poo poo to that I say! Now, get to my class I want to hear about you!!!

Teaches: Core BarreA California native, Shawnté has always enjoyed a fit and active lifestyle, her main focus being swimming for many years. After having her two young children (ages 5 and 7), Shawnté searched for that one perfect workout which would be effective, yet not overly time consuming as she no longer had the luxury of spending hours at the gym. In 2009 she tried her first barre class (at Revolution Fitness!) and from there her passion for this method began. Although it was difficult accepting that this exercise alone worked for her, Shawnté phased out other workouts to focus solely on her practice of the barre method/technique. As promised, the results developed quickly and steadily, which naturally had her feeling better both physically and emotionally. As an added bonus, she freed up time because she wasn’t at the gym for two hours a day now that she had discovered how well this method worked for her! After seeing the amazing changes taking place in her body and mind, she realized this was something that she absolutely needed share with anyone who had any interest in being a better or stronger version of who they currently are/were.
With over a year (200+ hours) of hands on, in-class training from some of Revolution’s most incredible instructors, Shawnté dedicated herself to not only perfecting the form that makes this technique so rewarding, but also learned how to teach it to others. Her goal as an instructor is not to take on the teacher role so much that people feel intimidated, but rather to guide them and help them to realize their full fitness potential, in an open and supportive environment. Knowing firsthand how much of a difference it can make, Shawnté firmly believes that sometimes people just need a little extra motivation to take them to the next level…nobody is comfortable outside of their comfort zone so getting there is often a big challenge, one she hopes to help people overcome. Since she started teaching classes in 2010, Shawnté has prided herself on giving a class where that positive energy and motivation are ever present!
Having been actively involved in team sports since the age of five and strength training from 13, it was no surprise to anyone who knew him (or had competed against him!) when Bobby became an All American High School Football player. His sporting career continued to flourish when he was recruited out of high school to play professional baseball, but Bobby decided his passion belonged on the football field and he went on to get a full athletic scholarship for the University of Virginia in 1992 and started for the team as a true freshman during his rookie year. Following a successful college career as a Tight End at UVA, Bobby made the impressive leap into the NFL when he was drafted by the Chicago Bears in 1996 and started in the Tight End position.
When his football career ended due to injury, Bobby decided to move to Los Angeles and use the skills he’d learned on the field and in the weight room to educate and inspire others about the joys and benefits of cardio fitness and strength training. He quickly developed a dedicated following of private clients and fans of his unique ‘Tight End Zone’ class, the first of its kind to incorporate football style speed drills and strength training into a fun and intense workout for both men and women.
Bobby’s positive attitude, out-going personality, witty sense of humor and innovative training techniques mean that no one workout is ever the same as another, which keep his clients’ bodies and minds always guessing! His passion and knowledge for health and fitness combined with his commitment to the well-being of his client’s and their families take him from being merely a trainer to becoming an integral part of their lives. Bobby’s sporting background has provided him with inside-knowledge of nutrition, injury rehabilitation, and how to inspire people of all ages and experience to reach their optimum fitness level so that they can live life to the fullest.
No stranger to the media spotlight, Bobby’s fitness expertise has been featured in SELF Magazine, People, In Touch Weekly, the New York Post and the Atlanta-Journal Constitution, while he has also appeared on ESPN News, Fox Sports and Sports Center. Bobby is also a certified member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

Hey guys, welcome to Revolution and the wonderful world of Spinning (you’ll see). So those of you who know my classes know that they’re always top shelf stuff! For the newcomers, we get a solid mix of cyclists and Spinners (I was a Spinner before I started cycling and shaving my legs, I’ll have you know!) My classes are loaded with power music, ranging from classic rock, to soul, rhythm and blues, commercial rock, as well as my favorite, trance (dance/club). Hailing from South Africa means that I play a load of SA and European music too. Sweet! This mix provides for an energetic and fun workout that is always led at full pace. I’m just there to set the example (mostly), which doesn’t mean you have to keep up, it just means that you have to try your best, whatever level you may be at, seriously, we all started somewhere! (We welcome all levels). I have a simple motto, albeit a cliché: “What you put in is what you get out.” I use my cycling and racing experience to put together a great workout with awesome new music, every time, guaranteed. It’s an amazing workout experience, so enjoy it – I do. See you on floor.

Teaches: PilatesMegan joined the fitness industry in Santa Barbara in 2005 when she began taking Pilates. After just a few sessions, she fell in love with it and immediately began the Pilates certification process.
Originally from the mid-west, Megan was raised in the Chicago area and received her degree in Business Management at the University of Iowa. After taking some time to travel the world, she decided not enter the corporate world and instead decided to pursue a career in the fitness industry, her true passion.
Pilates is the perfect complement to her active lifestyle, giving her the strength and flexibility to enjoy hiking, swimming, cycling, snowboarding and many other physical activities. Having recently relocated to Santa Monica, Megan continues to teach Pilates and motivate others to improve their posture, increase flexibility and gain the strength and confidence to help with activities in their own daily lives. While keeping the goals of her clients in mind, she focuses on giving a full body workout in every session.
Megan is certified through IM=X Pilates (Integrated Movement = Exercise).
Teaches: Core BarreNancy Norby has been teaching the barre system for years. She taught Lotte Berk in New York and Bridgehampton, owned and operated The Lotte Berk Method Los Angeles and Sunset Plaza Fitness. She lives in Santa Monica where she is raising 6 children and living to tell the tale!

Noel discovered the world of spinning 10 years ago when looking for something to expand her fitness routine and something to compliment her yoga practice. Always seeking to learn in order to create balance in her life, she dove in with full force. Coming from a dance background, the mix of music and movement on the bike was created a perfect fit.
She has taught for over 7 years and has learned to incorporate her other passions yoga and pilates on the bike. Learning how these different fitness tools can work side by side with each other, has helped her to become stronger and grow. She taught and was on the bike throughout her pregnancy and attributes her cross training view of fitness to her quick return shortly there after.
She loves an interval class and will take you across all terrains and believes resistance is your best friend on the bike. You will hear a little Hip-hop Alternative and Classic Rock and most likely some Motown all wrapped into one sweet mix. She will keep you flowing the whole way through pushing you just enough to find your groove. There is something so wonderful about finding your place on the bike and making it your own.
She most recently acquired her Pilates certification through "the Method Pilates" and is available for Private and Duet Pilates sessions. Ask the front desk or visit the Pilates menu for more information.
I've been teaching spin at Revolution for 3 years. It's the best and most consistent studio in town. I'm a worker. Workers tend to love me. What I am trying to do exactly is become an Ironman World Champion (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run). To do this, I've accepted that training is a process of building thresholds. It's a process of bullying our comfort to new levels of acceptance and strength. I don't believe in ceilings, or that any of our best days are behind us. Whether it's your first class with me or your 1,000th, our journeys are relative, and from the moment you step in that room, we are in it together. Come to lose 50 lbs or 5. Come to build patience, nerve, train for an event or just for life. People who have come before have done ALL of these things. The bigger the work, the brighter we shine, and the more you will take from me. The further we have to go, the greater the reward. Humble beginnings encouraged. I'm also WAY nicer than all of this sounds. I'll even sign off with something sweet and affectionate to bring everything back to center, like xxxooo. Now let's do this.

I have been Indo-Rowing since its inception here @ Revolution Fitness in 2004. It has truly changed my fitness level beyond my wildest expectations and has helped to alleviate a chronic neural condition. I absolutely love the amazing cardio & muscle work-out combined w/ the varied levels of intensity- every class is excitingly unique & challenging. The best aspect though is the great camaraderie & invigorating level of competitive support among our students. I’m stoked to be on the Indo-Row team!
Stephanie Moore (Stephanie Fargo at the time) opened Revolution in the spring of 1996. Disheartened with the entertainment industry and going through a very difficult time in her life, Stephanie discovered Spinning and was hooked from day one. She would walk into her Spinning classes depressed and defeated and leave feeling strong and confident. When the time came for Steph to decide between pursuing her acting career or opening up her own Spin studio, the decision was simple. She knew she wanted to make other people feel as great as she felt walking out of those Spin classes. Soon after, Revolution was born. Stephanie chose Santa Monica's trendy but cozy Montana Avenue as home for Revolution Fitness.

After being in a motorcycle accident in 2009 she was left years later with a lot of pain and discomfort throughout her body. It was through this accident that Katherine soon discovered Bikram Yoga. All the physical and emotional pain that she was carrying with her was taken away after just one week of practice. Katherine is a natural-born teacher and finds no greater joy than to share her knowledge with others. Having a background in gymnastics has given her a physique that only barre can build. Her passion for the discipline is infused with the humor and preciseness of an educator. You leave her class feeling grounded, strong, long and lean!

Teaches: Core BarreLeigh Wakeford was born and raised in beautiful Cape Town, South Africa. Big dreams, and aspirations led him to the lights of Broadway, where he has spent the past 4 years, calling Manhattan, home. The hustle and bustle of NYC sent him on the inevitable journey to find the peace, harmony and balance, that would enable him to juggle a career based in uncertainty and a life surrounded by chaos. Yoga was the answer. “On my mat, I could shut out the noisy surroundings of the busy Metropolis, and silence the voices of doubt in my mind. Even if just for an hour a day, I found my solitude, my church.” His growing obsession with the Yoga lifestyle lead him to his mentors Stephanie Culen and Mindy Frenkl, under whose guidance Leigh completed his 200 hour RYT certification in December 2010.
Fast-forward to April 2012, Leigh finds himself in the City of Angels, having made a career transition from the stage to the silver screen. Committed to finding his “church” in his new home, enter Nancy Norby and an exciting fitness concept known as “Core Barre”. Having been trained in all forms of dance for the past 10 years, this combination of ballet barre technique and yoga elements, opened Leigh’s mind and body to the endless benefits of merging his passion for dance, his primal need for yoga, and fascination for healthy living. An obsession was born. Leigh received his Barre certification through Hot 8 Yoga in May 2012.
